A rare rainbow arcs over South Mountain. Incidentally, that's
Juan's Grande (a.k.a. McCaffrey Peak) in the background on the left.
It doesn't look that big in the photo, but, believe me, looks can be deceiving.
The 2nd photo shows some of the many petroglyphs that can be found in South
Mountain Park. South Mountain was once the stomping grounds
for the Hohokam Indians and they left their mark everywhere. These
photos don't really do the petroglyphs justice... they're much more impressive
in person.
Here's a closeup of some ancient Hohokam petroglyphs. These were
found in Pima Canyon. And the 2nd photo shows some ancient
Hohokam corn grinding holes. These were quite deep indicating the
Hohokam had used them for a long period of time.
A few more shots of the petroglyphs in South Mountain park. The
first shot shows John in front of a petrpglyph panel near Pima Canyon.
The 2nd photo is the prize panel of the South Mountain historians:
The "Party-Morphs". Yes, that's actually what the local Hohokam historians
call this panel. It shows about 8 stick figures doing some kind of
dance. It looks really cool up close. There's so many cool
things to see and do in South Mountain Park.
