Brenda's Impressions
Brenda's Impressions
Throughout our trip, we have seen major wildflower explosions, especially along the Pacific Coast. I was very pleased to see some unusual wildflowers in Glacier National Park. Shown here is "Bear Grass" (which is neither a grass, nor is it eaten by bears). It is actually a member of the Lily family. In this cold climate with a very short growing season, it takes about seven years for the Bear Grass to store enough energy to bloom. So, it is unusual to see a big exhibition of blooming Bear Grass - this year is an exception! It is incredible to see a lone deer grazing among the Bear Grass in the filtered light of an ancient forest.
I regret that we had only two nights in Glacier National Forest. It is definitely worthy of an extended camping/hiking trip.
