Connection
If television advertising reflects culture, then America is in a
renaissance of Spirituality.
IBM shows Catholic nuns walking to vespers while discussing OS/2
networks.
Michael Jordan runs through mount ain crags in Tibet, where an
Eastern holy man says "Life is a sport; drink it up."
On the other hand Nissan's Zen-like elderly Asian man tells us
"Live is a Journey, enjoy the Ride."
Journey or Sport, life and its religious expressions are hot topics
on every campus in the United States. "Spirituality is
in," says Sam Keen, author of Hymns to an Unknown
God. "We are experiencing a rise of spiritual
individualism and uncorseted spiritual experimentation."
Need further proof? Check out any bookstore. "Religion books
are the fastest-growing adult trade-book category," says Lynn
Garrett of Publishers Weekly.
What Americans are reading -- rather than what they say they are
reading -- reflects a deep absorption with matters of the spirit.
This is nothing new in human nature, of course, but it is a sharp
change of direction for a traditionally materialistic culture.
Our group is oneof the best ways to make friendsfast.
Hanging out with any lively organization on campus is the quickest
way to new friendships.
STUDENTS' FELLOWSHIP
offers you not only the companionship of like-minded peers, but
also the guidance of mature Christians who can share their personal
quests.
Participation is free all the time. We who have organized the group are
followers of Jesus, who believe that the Bible is God's word -- pointing
to the Life that is real life. Even beyond that,
STUDENTS' FELLOWSHIP is committed to you an your
spiritual needs.
STUDENTS'
FELLOWSHIP is committed to your own personal journey.
Most university students are searching for a soul-based relationship that
takes them beyond the boundaries of their own senses or their own life. In
the late '90s, students are on a quest for meaning.
STUDENTS' FELLOWSHIP is for
Christian students and anyone who is searching for spiritual
relationships.
Our culture says that each of us should find his or her own personal
spirituality. What works for one may not work for another, so let's all
just find our own way separately. But does this track with your own
experience? Is that your sense of how the world works?
We will explore these and other bedrock questions throughout the academic
year. It is sure to be an exhilarating journey; we hope that you will come
along with us.
