- Importance of The Bible - Now we are going to talk about why the Bible is so important. John 1:1-16 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [STOP] Who is the Word? * Jesus Can anyone tell me why Jesus came to earth? * Jesus had a physical presence on earth that we could all see and relate to. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being 4in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. [STOP] Where was Jesus? * In the beginning with God. How did everything come into being? * Through Jesus. Here again, Jesus was given life on earth to be an example for us. Jesus is the light to all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. [STOP] Can anyone tell me what the darkness is, that could not overcome the light? * Sin, which could not overcome the light or life of Jesus. 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. [STOP] Who was John? * Disciple of Jesus. Was John the light? * No What was John's purpose? * To be a witness to testify to the light. In what ways are we like John? * We abide in Jesus and are witnesses of his love and grace? 9The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. [STOP] Who was that? * Jesus 10He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him. 11He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. [STOP] Jesus came into a world created through him, but many did not accept Him as Lord or Savior. 12But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, 13who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God. [STOP] What did Jesus call people who believed in Him? * Children of God. How is a child of God different than a normal person? * Born of the spirit. VERY IMPORTANT VERSE - 14And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth. [STOP] Jesus became flesh and lived among us. We see his glory in grace. 15 (John testified to him and cried out, 'This was he of whom I said, He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.') 16From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. [STOP] Who is John talking about? * Jesus Jesus came into the picture after John, ranking ahead of him, but John knew Jesus was present before John in the beginning. This part of the Bible is titled - "The Word became flesh". John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [STOP] We know that the Word was and was with God, being Jesus and becoming flesh. It is important to see that the Word provides us an accurate view of what Jesus has done and how we should live our lives through His love and grace. Any questions?
