The 1927 Gondoliers stands apart, as it includes perhaps the best cast D'Oyly Carte ever presented in this opera. 1961 D'Oyly Carte is a compelling choice for those who enjoy a recording with complete dialogue. 1959 Sargent/Glyndebourne and 1991 New D'Oyly Carte are both musically superb.
