What is HDV?

HDV is a new High Definition spec created by JVC and now supported by the leading Japanese Consumer Electronic companies. JVC has been shipping their HDV camcorders since mid 2003. In September of 2004 Sony's introduced the HDR-FX1 HDV camcorder. This past year Canaon jumpoed into the market. While Panasonic does not support HDV, they did come out with their own line of HD cams that utilize their DVCProHD format.

Just like with DV, you capture the HDV footage into your computer via FireWire. That's the easy part. In order to edit and process the HDV footage you are going to need a very powerful machine. For true real-time editing plan on a dual-core processor system with 2GB of RAM, a SATA RAID0 or SCSI drives for the video storage and a powerfful graphics card that supports OpenGL. You will also require HDV capable NLE software and/or plug-ins and/or hardware to edit the footage. Today almost every major NLE vendor has announced some level of support for HD editing including: Avid, Adobe, Apple, Grass Valley/Canopus, Sony, Matrox and Cineform.

High Def HDV video editing is in your future, and with the introduction of Blu-Ray authoring software and Blu-Ray burners, we'll soon be able to deliver that amazing HD footage to our cusomers, clients, friends and family. While Blu-Ray & HD DVD players are still very expensive, the Sony PlayStation 3 has begun shipping and for $699 it includes the ability to play and output Blu-Ray movies. At the upcoming CES2007 - the big consumer electromics show held in Las Vegas every january - we hope to see a bunch of new and more affordable Blu-Ray & HD DVD solutions!

Max Bettan website & baby book

On the personal side, here are some of the things in life I enjoy, and links to websites of interest.

DisneyWorld

Simply the greatest, best. most fun place on earth! I had the best time! We can't wait to go back. Hopefully for my Birthday!! (Oh yeah, the kids loved it too!)

Here is a very cool link to a website loaded with tips for getting the most out of your Disney vacation. DisneyZone

If you want to have the meals with the characters, you need to book them before your trip. For breakfast with Cinderella in her castle, you have to make your reservation exactly 180 days before. Call 1-800- WDW-DINE. Other great places for meals are Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary, Flametree Bar-B-Que in Animal Kingdom, Brown Derby in MGM, and the Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom.

If you thought Epcot was just for older kids, think again. Little ones can go around the world and get special gifts at each country. We found Snow White and all the dwarves outside of Germany. The World of Energy ride is fantastic and the dinosaurs look really amazing without being too frightening for little ones. Test Track, Mission Space and Soaring are all must see attractions. The Illuminations fireworks display and laser light show is incredible. Don't skip Epcot!!

Sandals & Beaches Resorts

Our favorite places to go for vacation - either with the family or just for a Romantic get away. Lisa & I try to go on a grown-up only vaction to Jamaica every other year. THis July we will be renewing our vows in Negril to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary!

We've taken the kids with us to Beaches Turks & Caicos three times, and we'll be heading over to Negril in February. If you're looking for the very best in all-inclusive resorts, these guys set the standard by which all others are compared.

New York Mets

Boy did they break my heart this fall. To blow that series against the Cards.  Rich & I were at every home playoff game. I even got to take Max to a game in each series.

In 2007 anything short of going to the World Series will be a major dissapointemt., We still need starting pitching and Wagner gives my nightmares, but the young bats are only going to get better!

New York Islanders

Max & I are Islander season ticket holders. Max's favorite players are Rick DePietro, Jason Blake, Shawn Bates Trent Hunter and Marislov Satan. We also like some of the new young guys like Cris Campolli and Bruno Gervais.

We've been pretty hard on Alexi Yashin over the past few seasons, but he seems to have regained his heart and his shot. Hopefully he can lead us deep into the playoffs!

Napa Valley Wines

We try to visit at least once a year. We stay at a fantastic B&B called the Silver Rose Inn. Our favorite wineries are Merryvale, St. Clement , Rombauer and Silverado!

Fantasy Football

Rich, Jim and I had 3 teams this year. We drafted LT witht he 3rd pick and roade him all the way to the championship of the Piccolo league this year - winning our 3rd title. We didn't do that well in our other leagues. Too bad we couldn't grab LT in all of them!

The Grateful Dead

It's not the same without Jerry, but I really enjoy seeing them over the summer at Jones Beach Amphitheatre. opefully they'll come around again this summer. If not, I'll still catch Bobby & Phil whenever they play the Beacon!
